After Hours Doctor Australia is an online telehealth service that provides patients with access to doctors via video conference appointments After Hours, on Weekends, and Public Holidays. We provide a private and professional system for you to see a doctor via video consultation at a time that suits you, from the comfort of your own home, or on the go from your mobile device. It is the perfect solution for time-poor patients and individuals of all ages from adults to children unable to readily access regular health services for urgent but non-emergency health conditions.

How do I book a telehealth appointment with After Hours Doctor Australia?

As a patient, you are in control of the timing of your online doctor consultation. You simply need to log onto our website and click: Book Appointment to select an immediate or in advance telehealth appointment. You also have the option to book over the phone with our helpful administration team who are available between 9 am – 9 pm AEST, 7 days per week on 135 001. You will need to pay for the consultation before your appointment is confirmed. Book Now or call 135 001.

Is my telehealth doctor consultation covered by Medicare?

We are a private telehealth service and payment will be required prior to your telehealth consultation. If you have had a Mental Health consultation, or if the consultation is for a baby under 12 months of age, then an MBS item does apply, and we can claim a rebate for you after your consultation. Bulk billed services are not available through this service.

When is After Hours Doctor Australia open?

Telehealth consultations with our doctors are available 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, between 9am – 9pm AEST, including After Hours, on Weekends, and Public Holidays. You can log on to our website 24/7 and book a telehealth doctor consultation at a time that suits you or contact our administration staff on 135 001 to book your telehealth appointment over the phone.

How does a telehealth consultation work?

Once you have booked and paid for your consultation, either online or via phone, you will be sent an email and an SMS with the appointment confirmation details. This message will also include a link to join your online doctor telehealth consultation. You can join your consultation using your mobile phone, iPad, laptop, or desktop. If there are technical issues, and you cannot join via the video link, your doctor will endeavor to call you instead.

Note: Ensure your device has a working camera, speakers, and microphone. For the best results, use Google Chrome. You can test your settings using this pre-call test link.

Is After Hours Doctor Australia an Australian service?

Yes! After Hours Doctor Australia is privately held, Australian-owned, and operated, based in Melbourne. All doctors are registered and certified by the Australian Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA).

Do you have a physical location?

No – Our telehealth consultations are delivered 100% virtually. You can speak with your GP online from any device in the comfort of your own home or any Australia-wide location.

Can I get a prescription through After Hours Doctor Australia?

Prescriptions are provided at each doctor’s discretion. If a doctor provides a prescription, you can choose your delivery method, either via SMS, email, or fax to your local pharmacy. Note: Schedule 8 Controlled Drug medications and drugs of addiction are not prescribed through our service.

Can I get a medical certificate, pathology/imaging request, or referral?

Yes! If your consulting doctor deems it necessary, they can issue a medical certificate, referral, or a pathology request form, which will be emailed to you.

Is there anything that After Hours Doctor Australia cannot assist with?

Yes. After Hours Doctor Australia cannot assist with emergencies, Health Care Plans (except for Mental Health Care Plans), or Schedule 8 drugs. Please contact your local hospital or GP for these needs.

What if my video telehealth consultation drops out?

If your telehealth connection drops, the doctor will attempt to reconnect or call you on the mobile number you provided. Please ensure your contact details are correct.

What if I no longer need my appointment, can I get a refund?

To cancel or reschedule an appointment, contact us 24 hours before your telehealth consultation time by calling

135 001 or emailing [email protected]. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice will not be refunded.
